Everything you need to know about discovering music, listening, sharing and releasing your music on Serenada.

About Serenada & availability

What is Serenada?

Serenada brings music discovery, full-track streaming and social connection together in one place, built for independent, human-made music. Discover a song through a short clip, listen to the full track, follow the artist and share it with someone else. Fans find music and people they connect with; artists build an audience around their work. And when you subscribe, your listening helps determine which artists receive the music royalties from your subscription.

Is Serenada a streaming platform or a music distributor?

Serenada is a music streaming platform, not a distributor. Independent artists and rights holders upload directly to us, without going through a distributor. We stream your music on Serenada; we don't deliver it to other services.

Where can I download the Serenada app?

Download Serenada for iPhone from the Apple App Store or for Android from Google Play. In supported countries, follow the app links on serenada.music or search the stores for 'Serenada Music'.

Which countries is Serenada available in for listeners?

Serenada is currently available for fans to stream and subscribe in the United Kingdom and the United States.

Which countries can artists create an account from?

Independent artists and rights holders can currently register from the following 44 countries and territories:

Europe: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

Americas: Brazil, Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Asia-Pacific: Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore and Thailand.

Middle East: United Arab Emirates.

Why isn't Serenada available in my country yet?

We're opening Serenada country by country. Listener streaming depends on local music licensing and operations, while artist registration also depends on the ability to make payments. That's why artist sign-up and fan streaming don't always cover the same countries. If you'd like Serenada in your country, tell us at info@serenada.music.

How much does a Serenada subscription cost?

Serenada costs £9.99 a month in the UK or $9.99 a month in the US. Your subscription unlocks full-song listening, and the artists you actually play help determine where your subscription's music royalties go.

Can I use Serenada without a paid subscription?

Yes. You can join for free, discover music and explore the platform. You also get one full-song play before a subscription is needed for continued full-track listening. You can discover something new before deciding to subscribe.

For artists & labels

Who can upload music to Serenada?

Serenada is for independent artists, labels and rights holders who have permission to make their recordings available. Artists must be 18 or over, credit their contributors and meet our human-made music rules. You don't need a label deal or a distributor to join.

Is it free to upload music?

Yes. Uploading music to Serenada is free. We don't charge artists an upload or distribution fee, because the platform is funded by fan subscriptions, not by charging artists to be heard.

How do I create an artist account and upload my music?

Create an artist account at app.serenada.music/register. Add your artist details, upload your WAV or AIFF master, artwork and song credits, then attach a Discovery Clip so fans can find the track in the feed. Every song needs at least one clip and can have up to three. Accept the artist terms and complete the upload process to publish.

Can I release my music on Serenada and other streaming platforms?

Absolutely. Serenada is non-exclusive. You can release the same track here and on other streaming platforms. If you'd like to offer a Serenada-exclusive recording, that's your choice, provided you control the rights.

Do I retain ownership of my music?

Yes. Your recordings remain yours. You grant Serenada permission to host, promote and stream them under our artist terms, but you don't transfer ownership of your music to us.

Can independent record labels upload their catalogues?

Yes. Serenada welcomes independent labels and other independent rights holders. You can upload recordings you are authorised to license, with the correct artist and contributor credits. For now, music is uploaded directly to Serenada rather than delivered through a distributor.

Does Serenada accept all genres, instrumental music and music in other languages?

We welcome music across genres and languages, including instrumental music, provided it meets our human-made music rules. If a recording has lead vocals, they must be performed by a human artist. AI-generated lead vocals and predominantly AI-generated tracks are not accepted.

Do I need to create videos for my songs?

You don't need a full music video. Each song needs at least one short Discovery Clip, up to 30 seconds long, and you can add three clips per track. The clip introduces the song to fans in Discovery; they can then move straight to the full recording.

AI & human-made music

Why doesn't Serenada allow AI-generated music?

Because Serenada exists to support music made by people. Writing, performing and producing music takes human imagination and skill, and we want discovery, audiences and income to benefit those artists. AI-generated songs don't belong in a platform built around human-made music.

Can artists use AI-assisted production tools?

Yes, when the technology supports a human-led creative process rather than replacing it. Artists can use production tools that assist their work, but the composition, performance and creative direction must remain human-led. We don't accept AI-generated songs or synthetic lead-vocal performances.

Will Serenada ever use my music to train AI?

No. Serenada does not supply or authorise artists' recordings for generative AI training. Your music remains yours, and our artist terms reflect that commitment.

Discovery & social features

How does music discovery work on Serenada?

Discovery starts with short clips attached to real songs. Swipe to hear something new, like or pass on tracks, and Boost the discoveries you want other people to hear. When a song connects with you, listen to it in full, save it, follow the artist or share it. Top Ten and Surging provide more ways to explore what's being discovered.

What makes Serenada different from other streaming platforms?

On most platforms, you discover music in one place, stream it somewhere else and share it on a social app. Serenada connects those experiences. You can discover an independent artist, play the song in full, follow them and share it with friends without leaving the platform.

It's different for artists, too. Music is human-made, the royalties are fan-centric and eligible artists and paid subscribers can earn recurring referral payments for bringing new paying fans to Serenada.

How can fans follow artists, share music and connect with each other?

Music is better when it starts a conversation. Follow artists and other fans, show what you're listening to through your profile, and share tracks and playlists. With the Reactions Inbox, you can send a song directly to someone and see their reaction. Your Top Ten, playlists and Boosts make your music taste part of your identity on Serenada.

Royalties & referrals

How do artists earn money on Serenada?

There are two ways eligible artists can earn. First, their recordings earn royalties when paying fans listen, with the master recording allocation based on what each subscriber actually plays. Second, artists who bring new paying fans to Serenada can earn recurring referral payments. Songwriting and publishing royalties are accounted for separately through the relevant rights arrangements.

How is subscription revenue divided between artists, rights holders and Serenada?

First, we deduct applicable taxes and payment-processing costs from each subscription. If someone joined through a qualifying referral, we then deduct the monthly £1 or $1 referral payment. From the remaining net revenue, 50% goes to the fan-centric master recording pool, 20% is reserved for publishing and related rights, and 30% goes to Serenada to run and develop the platform. The master recording pool is allocated according to what each subscriber actually listens to.

Why doesn't Serenada have a fixed per-stream payment rate?

Because we don't put everyone's listening into one global royalty pool. Each paying fan has their own master recording allocation, shared between the qualifying tracks they play. If they mostly listen to you, more of that allocation goes to your recordings. If they listen to lots of artists, it is shared between them. A stream qualifies after at least 30 seconds, so the effective value of a play varies by listener.

How does the Serenada referral programme work?

The Serenada referral programme is for both eligible artists and paid subscribers. Share your personal referral link and, when a new fan joins as a qualifying paying subscriber through it, you can earn £1 each month for a UK subscriber or $1 each month for a US subscriber for as long as their qualifying subscription remains active. Artists need at least three songs on Serenada to qualify. Referral payments are separate from an artist's streaming royalties and are governed by our Referral & Referral Payment Policy.

When and how do artists receive their payments?

Artist royalties are reported and paid on a three-month lag, subject to the payment threshold in our policy. To receive payments, artists need to complete payment verification and provide their payout details through Stripe. The full process is explained in Serenada's Royalties & Payments Policy.
